Today, people are getting their house and car windows tinted for several different reasons. There are those who do it for aesthetics while others do it for safety. Regardless of the reason, window tints are thin laminated films which can be installed both to the exterior and interior of glass surfaces. Tints are a product of polyethylene terephthalate shortened as PET. PET is a thermoplastic polymer resin. When in need of Commercial Window Tinting Philadelphia needs to be checked out.

Polymer resins fall under the family of polyesters. Tensile strength, dimensional stability, and clarity are some of the features of resin. Moreover, they are able to accept various embedded surfaces or treatments they are applied onto. These products have numerous generic categories. The planned use and components of construction among other aspects determine how they will be classified.

These categories include automotive, nano, metallized, dyed, marine, ceramic, pigmented and architectural. There are two groups that is glass and polycarbonate if the categorization is based on the type of substrate. Those categorized according to technical performance are usually meant for safety, security, privacy and solar control.

Installation of a window tint usually needs to be carried out by a professional. However, if one is familiar with what is supposed to be done then they can do the installation. Amount of light, infrared and UV radiation entering a room can be regulated by installing heat rejection tints on the inside of flat glass. These tints may be dyed or metalized and made transparent to light.

Modern window films can now be designed differently because of the advancement in technology. There are ceramic tints that are non-metallic and comprise of no dyes. Discoloration of glass can be caused by tints that are died. Therefore, ceramic window films can be used to avoid this discoloration. However, it might be a bit costly to acquire ceramic and metallic tints when compared to regular films. Despite this, in terms of reduction of energy transmission, they are a better option.

Filtering ultraviolet radiation greatly reduces fading. Most people do not know that UV light is among the major causes of fading. This means that when it is filtered, the longevity of fittings and fixtures can be significantly increased. Basic clear tints have the ability of rejecting ultraviolet light up to a certain level. As such, in order to ensure full protection, a person has to install specialized films designed for addressing UV spectrum alone.

Every glass does not accept film. Because of this, one has to consider certain factors before installing them. The ability of the glass and tint to absorb UV, pane size, window construction, and thickness of the glass are some of the factors to consider. Other factors one can consider include toughness of the glass, its insulation, lamination, and whether the films or glasses are single paned.

To finalize, in order to minimize the risk of the glass cracking due to thermal stress, the tint fitted must be selected appropriately. However, the pane of the glass can also break after application of tint due to damages caused during glazing and not from thermal stress. Most importantly, a person must check the state laws on window tinting before embarking on a tint job.
